Texas Public Policy Foundation’s James Quintero, director of the Center for Local Governance, will testify in support of Senate Bill 460 and Senate Bill 461, two bills aiming to improve local government debt transparency and accountability. Quintero will testify before the Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations TODAY, Monday, March 27th, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. CDT in room E1.028 at the Texas State Capitol.
“Texas’ local governments are awash in a sea of red ink, creating big challenges for today’s taxpayers and tomorrow’s Texans,” said Quintero. “The latest figures show that Texas’ local debt per capita ranks as the 2nd highest among the top ten most populous states, with only New York faring worse. That’s a startling situation that needs to be addressed with strong measures to improve transparency and accountability.”
