AUSTIN – Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Local Governance Director James Quintero testified today before the House Committee on Pensions meeting at the Houston City Council Chamber.

“Public employees deserve a fair and secure retirement, but the current system promises workers anything but,” said Quintero. “Texas’ defined benefit pension systems have racked up more than $60 billion in unfunded liabilities. It’s critical that state lawmakers move to stop this pension debt from getting even further out-of-hand and allow employees to participate in a system that can live up to the promises that it makes.”
