The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s distinguished senior fellow Tom Lindsay released the following statement:

“HB 3979, the bill to ensure students learn accurate civic literacy, was just struck down in the House in a procedural move. There is still an opportunity to act, though time is short. It is critically important that we don’t indoctrinate our students with harmful state-funded racism, such as critical race theory. The Senate can protect the integrity of education system if it acts quickly enough, prioritizes this bill, and sends it back to the House. This would be a major loss for Texas’s six million students if not passed this session.”
