UPDATE:
The Texas Public Policy Foundation congratulates the Texas House for passing a responsible state budget in the conference report for SB 1, which funds state functions for the 2022-23 biennium while staying within the average taxpayer’s ability to pay for it.
TPPF Chief Economist Vance Ginn released the following statement:
“TPPF appreciates the work of Speaker Dade Phelan, Chairman Greg Bonnen, and the members of the conference committee for SB 1 as they were committed throughout session to respond quickly in a bipartisan way to restrain the budget’s growth like Texans have done. By holding the budget’s increase to $4.3 billion below population growth plus inflation—after appropriately excluding the $6.1 billion to maintain property tax relief, the Texas budget sustains the efforts over the last three sessions to keep spending in check so the economy and families have more opportunities to prosper.”
The Texas Public Policy Foundation applauds the Texas Senate for passing a responsible state budget in the conference report for SB 1, which provides funding for state functions for the 2022-23 biennium but does not grow beyond the average taxpayer’s ability to pay. Total appropriations falls well below TPPF’s formula for the Conservative Texas Budget and maintains property tax relief that avoids a huge tax hike and does not grow government. The next step is for the House to adopt this conference report.
TPPF Chief Economist Vance Ginn released the following statement:
“TPPF appreciates the work of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Madam Chair Jane Nelson, and the members of the conference committee for SB 1 as they were committed throughout session to respond quickly in a bipartisan effort to keep budget’s growth down like families have done across the state. By holding the budget’s increase below population growth plus inflation after appropriately excluding the amount to maintain property tax relief, this budget continues the effort to not overspend so that the state economy and families can have more opportunities to flourish thereby keeping Texas Texan.”
