Renewable energy subsidies come with a billion dollar price tag for consumers and taxpayers but with little transparency. The financial benefits for large energy corporations and Wall Street firms from the federal, state, and local subsidies are largely hidden from view, as are their negative effects on communities and the reliability of the electric grid. In Texas, local tax abatement agreements are shielded from the public through exemptions from the Texas Open Meetings Act and the Texas Public Information Act until it is too late for citizens to have meaningful input.
You’re invited to join us for a panel discussion presentation. Our expert panel will discuss the consequences of these subsidies as well as solutions to reduce their costs to the public and restore transparency to the process. Complimentary lunch will be served, so please RSVP to be added to our guest list.
The panelists are:
- The Honorable Donna Campbell, M.D., Texas Senate
- The Honorable Mark McBride, Oklahoma House of Representatives
- The Honorable Kathleen Hartnett White, Senior Fellow, Texas Public Policy Foundation
- Peter Hartley, Ph.D., George and Cynthia Mitchell Professor of Economics, Rice University
