The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) today announced statewide radio ads on school choice featuring Senator Ted Cruz and former Senator Phil Gramm. Senators Cruz and Gramm lend their voices in support of Senate Bill 3, which provides Texas families with education choice achieved through education savings accounts (ESAs).

Senator Ted Cruz said:

“The facts are clear: school choice works. It improves test scores, strengthens public schools, and gives struggling kids hope and opportunity. School choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st Century. Every child deserves a chance to pursue their dreams—regardless of race, wealth, or zip code. Please join me and support school choice now.”

In a second ad, Sen. Cruz said:

“Every child in Texas deserves school choice—an equal opportunity to learn no matter their wealth or skin color. School choice improves the public schools, and leaders like Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick are working hard to make it a reality. School choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st Century. So I ask you to join me and support Texas kids.”

Former Senator Phil Gramm said:

“Eight-four percent of Texas primary voters support school choice, but the teachers’ union in Austin is blocking new legislation that lets parents take their share of tax money spent on education and send their children to the school of their choice. Let your legislator know that you demand that a vote be held on school choice.”

TPPF Center for Education Freedom Senior Policy Analyst Stephanie Matthews said:

“Senator Cruz and Senator Gramm share a passion for liberty, and have long been champions of education freedom. They recognize the value of empowering parents to choose the education that best suits their child. We agree with them that education freedom is the civil rights issue of our time!”
