AUSTIN – Matthew Ladner, Ph.D., Senior Fellow at Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Education Policy, will testify in favor of SB 115 on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. in room E1.028 of the Texas State Capitol.

The purpose of the bill is to allow families with special needs children the opportunity to receive scholarships for private schooling. Ladner will testify on behalf of the bill with the goal of improving the learning environment for special needs students while simultaneously driving competition into Texas’ education field.

“More than a decade ago, Florida lawmakers gave every family with a public school student with a disability freedom to choose the best option for their child,” said Ladner. “Since, research on this program finds strong test score gains for children with disabilities as well as very high parental satisfaction rates. Additionally, increased choice for children with disabilities continues to enjoy strong bipartisan support in the Sunshine State and has been emulated by lawmakers in eight states since passing in 1999.”
