The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Executive Vice President Kevin Roberts, Ph.D., and Center for Education Freedom Senior Policy Advisor Stephanie Matthews issued the following statements on Governor Greg Abbott’s comments on education freedom in Texas.

“Today Governor Abbott advocated vigorously for educational freedom,” said Roberts. “We applaud his energetic reminder that ‘parents, not government, are best-positioned to make decisions about their children’s education.’ Education Savings Accounts would offer every Texas child the opportunity to flourish, so with the Governor, we look forward to parental choice, not zip codes, determining a child’s opportunity to succeed.”

“We applaud Governor Abbott for his commitment to improving educational options for the children of Texas,” said Matthews. “Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) help give parents the ability to give their children the education that best suits their individual needs. ESAs are optional accounts used by parents exclusively for the educational benefit of their child. ESA spending can be totally customized so that each student’s unique needs can be met.”
