AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation applauds the Texas Legislature’s final approval of House Bill 1296 that will improve the transparency of Texas public higher education.

“This is a fantastic victory for Texas parents and students who will now be able to make better-informed higher-education choices,” said Dr. Thomas Lindsay, TPPF’s Center for Higher Education Director.  “College-bound high school students, their parents, and high-school counselors will now have access to the information they need to compare Texas colleges based on tuition cost, average student-loan debt, average graduation rate, and average employment rate.”

Lindsay continued, “At a time of skyrocketing tuitions, crushing student-loan debt, and massive underemployment of recent college graduates, these transparency measures are indispensable if Texas college students are truly to get their money’s worth from higher education.”
