AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation will host a debate on “Free Speech and the Non-Profit Community: Freedom of Association vs. Forced Disclosure” TOMORROW, Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. CDT in the Joe B. Hogsett Theater at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

A national debate is underway on free speech and its role in civil discourse in the United States. At both the federal and state levels, powerful interests are proposing potent restrictions against free speech in the name of transparency and fairness. At the national level, it is the Internal Revenue Service. In Texas, they have taken the form of proposed laws which seek to force disclosure of donors to non-profit groups that express their opinions on public policy.

Participants include:

  • Paul Avelar, Institute for Justice
  • Chase Untermeyer, Texas Ethics Commission
  • Kandi King, National Speech & Debate Association (Moderator)
