The Texas Public Policy Foundation applauds Gov. Greg Abbott’s recent decision to block governmental entities from enacting and sustaining mask mandates.

“Ending the mask mandates sends a strong signal that Texas is ready to return to life before the pandemic,” said Kevin Roberts, TPPF’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our communities have made tremendous sacrifices that will take many months, if not years, to recover. Texas and Texans are incredibly resilient and, as such, the state should lead in restoring the freedoms that make it the most prosperous in the country.”

The executive order, released Tuesday, bars school boards, counties, cities, or other government entities from requiring the use of a face mask. Officials who attempt to do so may be subject to fine of up to $1,000. However, jails and hospitals are exempt from the order and may still require the use of masks in their facilities.
