AUSTIN – Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Dr. Deane Waldman, director of the Center for Health Care Policy, will testify in support of House Bill 1201, relating to the regulation of dental hygienists. Dr. Waldman will testify before the Texas House Public Health Committee TODAY, Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. CDT in room E2.012 of the Texas State Capitol.

“Texas has a critical shortage of dentists just as it does doctors, especially for Medicaid patients,” said Waldman. “House Bill 1201 would allow specially trained dental hygienists, under supervision of a dentist, to give anesthesia before painful procedures. This will make better use of dentists’ time and allow them to care for more patients. As a result, access to dental care will increase and wait times should go down. Forty-four other states and the U.S. military have been doing this for years with no safety issues—Texas should be next.”
