It’s hard to imagine voting to raise taxes on struggling families right now but in the name of leftwing orthodoxy, that’s exactly what the Austin City Council did.

In August of 2023, all but one Austin city councilmember voted to approve a massive $5.5 billion budget for fiscal year 2024, which is being billed as “the largest in the city’s history.” While you might expect this budget to address infrastructure needs or rising crime rates, it is instead replete with all sorts of social justice spending – from chasing climate change to tackling racial equity to addressing “gender inequities.”

While the city council might be under the impression that we need little more than iconic murals, flashy festivals, and their own “Midas touch” to solve issues such as housing unaffordability and homelessness, what we really need is market-driven housing diversity, a balanced budget, and transparency.

Join the Austin Liberty Leadership Council* for a salon dinner featuring an insightful and informative conversation about some exciting policy ideas that can restore liberty to property owners and revitalize our communities.

We hope to see you at the table.
