Dear lawmaker, Free and fair elections are the foundation of our great country. If we cannot hold elections and trust their outcomes, then our nation is destined to fail. We cannot have another election where local officials change the rules in the middle of an election or brazenly violate state or federal laws. It’s important that we focus on making voting secure. This, of course, means avoiding a federal takeover of elections which would set California as the model for elections and turn the Federal Election Commission (FEC) into a hammer rather than an umpire. It is incumbent upon the states to determine and uphold their own standards for election integrity, not the Federal government. This is further reinforced in the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which holds that’s states should be laboratories for democracy. The Federal Government should not seek to stifle the intention of that amendment, particularly for elections. Sincerely,
