A new poll conducted by Baselice and Associates suggests that the public strongly supports regulatory reform and rightsizing Texas’ administrative state. The poll, which surveyed 801 voters from November 25 to December 2, 2024, illuminates public sentiment in 3 areas: ensuring clear and easily accessible rules; establishing objective and transparent reviews; and enabling modern and efficient processes.

While the results were overwhelmingly positive throughout, the item that garnered the most support (94% favorability) was a proposal to require all regulations to be written in “plain speak” in order to improve understandability. The next most well-received item (91% favorability) proposed the creation of a user-friendly, one-stop state website so that business owners could understand what rules and regulations their operations were subject to. Other widely-supported ideas may be viewed in the image below.

Public sentiment clearly favors simpler, less intrusive government. Let’s hope the Texas Legislature is ready to respond with bold legislative solutions that move us in that direction.
