AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Center for Local Governance Senior Policy Analyst Jess Fields testified today before the Texas House Committee on Urban Affairs. Mr. Fields testified on House Bill 2595, which would prohibit a municipality from holding an election proposed by petition or approving a petition requesting the repeal or enactment of an ordinance if the repeal or enactment would restrict the right of a person to use or access the person’s private property for economic gain.

“House Bill 2595 seeks to strengthen private property rights in Texas against further infringement at the local level, a much-needed step in the right direction,” said Fields. “We cannot allow property rights to be destroyed by policies, such as fracking bans, that disregard the basic rights of Texans. We need to protect Texans’ rights from government overreach at all levels.”
