AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Local Governance Director James Quintero testified today before the Senate Committee on State Affairs on Senate Bill 1806, which would ensure the conformity of local ordinances and regulations with state law.

“Some local governments in Texas are using ‘local control’ as justification for adopting ordinances and enacting regulations that likely violate existing state law. It is critical that the Legislature do away with this notion and reassert the primacy of the State over its political subdivisions,” said Quintero. “Local ordinances and regulations should conform with state law, and SB 1806 would help ensure that that’s done.”
