AUSTIN –Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Vice President of Policy The Hon. Chuck DeVore is testifying before the Texas House Transportation Committee, Subcommittee on Long-term Infrastructure TODAY, Tuesday, March 24, at 1:00 p.m. CDT or upon adjournment in room E1.014 in the Texas State Capitol. DeVore is testifying in favor House Bill 20, relating to planning and operations of the Texas Department of Transportation and local transportation entities.

"HB 20 establishes a joint legislative State Infrastructure Advisory Committee. Among its tasks over the next two years, this committee has the opportunity to develop an objective return on investment criteria to rank transportation projects across Texas,” said DeVore. “In addition, the committee, if created, would be able to consider a greater role for money-saving procurement reforms at the Texas Department of Transportation, such as design-build contracting. Lastly, lawmakers may choose to examine long-term traffic forecasts and the role that demographics, job growth, new technology such as autonomous vehicles and ride sharing, and evolving driving habits, are having in slowing traffic growth."

Mr. DeVore's testimony closely parallels the conclusions in his new paper, "The Road Forward: Improving Efficiency in Texas Transportation Spending," released Monday, March 23, 2015.
