AUSTIN – Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Carine Martinez-Gouhier, research analyst of the Center for Economic Freedom, testified before the Texas House Committee on Urban Affairs yesterday against House Bill 3324, a bill relating to the establishment of a grocery access investment fund program.

“Government subsidies are not the answer to food deserts,” said Martinez-Gouhier. “HB 3324 would create a new economic development program to support grocery stores, but a better way to attract businesses into areas of need is to lower property taxes, reduce development costs, and eliminate barriers to entry for various occupations.”
