AUSTIN –The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Director of the Center for Local Governance James Quintero issued the following statement on Senate Bill 715, the Texas Annexation Reform Act. The bill, filed today, would end forced annexation, streamline voluntary annexation, and repeal limited purpose annexation.

“It’s time to end forced annexation in Texas,” said Quintero. “Right now, municipalities can unilaterally annex property owners living outside the city limits, whether they like it or not. The process is not only undemocratic, it’s un-Texan. We applaud the Texas Annexation Reform Act and other bills like it for attempting to right this terrible wrong.”
