AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Executive Director Arlene Wohlgemuth this morning issued this statement on the House Committee Substitute for CSSB 19, which will be considered by the full Texas House of Representatives today:

“Fundamental to our liberties are the rights of free speech and free association. We therefore must stand against any legislation that curtails those rights on government’s behalf. Unfortunately, the House Committee Substitute for CSSB 19 is exactly that sort of legislation. Unlike the bill as filed, this House Committee Substitute seeks to defend officeholders and those who wield power from the inquiries and associations of our fellow citizens and neighbors: and as such it is antithetical to American freedoms and Texas history."

Arlene Wohlgemuth is Executive Director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. She served 10 years as a state representative for district 58.

The Texas Public Policy Foundation is a non-profit, free-market research institute based in Austin, Texas.
