The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Local Governance Policy Analyst Bryan Mathew issued the following statement on Governor Greg Abbott’s declaration today in his State of the State address that property tax increases need to be reined in.

"Governor Abbott is right—Texans don’t rent their land from cities and governments shouldn’t be able to tax people out of their homes,” said Mathew. “Texans are ready for real, meaningful property tax reform that protects homeowners from the insatiable appetite of government and empowers voters to participate more fully in their local governance. I applaud Governor Abbott for emphasizing the need for legislative action on this critical issue.”
