AUSTIN – Interactions between police and civilians have captured recent headlines. To discuss the role of law enforcement and policies that better enable police to keep communities safe, the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Effective Justice will host the panel “Watchmen or Warfighter? Finding a Policing Model for the 21st Century” at the 14th Annual Policy Orientation for the Texas Legislature on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 3:30 pm CST at the Hilton Austin Hotel in Meeting Room 616.
“With high-profile police-citizen interactions grabbing headlines in a biased media, it has never been more important to discuss the ever-evolving role of law enforcement,” said Derek Cohen, deputy director of the Center for Effective Justice at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. “Shouldering the ‘impossible mandate’ of having to meet the standards dictated by many masters, the duties of the average officer on the street are less clear now than ever. We look forward to an informative discussion towards policy that preserve police safety, protect public safety, and produce the best outcomes in the community.”

Panelists include:
  • Representative Eric JohnsonTexas House of Representatives
  • Representative Linda KoopTexas House of Representatives
  • Derek CohenDeputy Director, Center for Effective Justice & Right on Crime, Texas Public Policy Foundation (Moderator)
