AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation joined with nine national conservative groups in a letter to House leadership to oppose raising the debt ceiling without significant reforms.

“The frustration with spend-not-save Washington has reached a critical point, and we want to make our position perfectly clear,” said Chip Roy, director of the Center for Tenth Amendment Action at Texas Public Policy Foundation. “Raising the debt ceiling again and again without any spending reform is selling America’s future. The more we allow it to happen, the harder the problem will be to fix.”

In the letter, the conservative coalition says raising the debt ceiling without significant spending reform is a broken promise and reminds House Leadership of their own calls to hold the line on the debt ceiling in 2011.

“Calling for fiscal reforms as a part of any debt celing negotiation is not just taking a stand, it is demanding accountability from the very leaders who advocated fiscal responsibility from the start,” said Roy.
