Following the U.S. Senate’s vote on the infrastructure package, the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Kevin Roberts released the following statement:

“The U.S. Senate passed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure package that adds at least a quarter of a trillion dollars to the already bloated national debt and spends less than 10% on actual infrastructure—roads and bridges. While Senators should have rejected this bill and it’s possible that the House may reject it, the next piece of legislation coming is even worse – a partisan $5.5 trillion Green New deal boondoggle proclaimed as ‘human infrastructure’ that includes amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, trillions of dollars in tax increases, Obamacare expansion, and more progressive priorities.

“The over $6 trillion in combined ‘infrastructure’ spending coming out of the U.S. Senate will bankrupt future generations of Americans while devastating today’s families already struggling from poor federal policy decisions and resulting high inflation not seen for decades. Members of the House should reject both pieces of legislation and work to pass a true infrastructure bill that doesn’t add to the debt or set off a larger inflation bomb.”
