Today, following Governor DeSantis’ release of his proposed border security plan, TPPF Secure & Sovereign Texas Policy Director Melissa Ford Maldonado released the following statement:

“Texas has long been at the forefront of the battle to protect our communities and uphold the rule of law along the border. It’s heartening to see presidential candidates join the state’s leadership in recognizing the importance of a unified effort between states and the federal government to tackle the national security challenges and a growing humanitarian crisis, and begin to offer detailed plans to implement the policies Texas and the country deserve.

“Governor DeSantis has proposed a strong plan that highlights the urgent need to regain operational control of the border, confront and dismantle criminal organizations, implement physical barriers to enhance security and ensure orderly and legal processes, and fosters cooperation with states to enforce the law.

“Just two and a half years ago, when TPPF’s Rodney Scott was Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, our country had the most secure southwest border in its history. Restoring the sensible policies, such as the Migrant Protection Protocols, along with implementing new strategies to put the Mexican drug cartels and their allies out of business, are needed now more than ever.

“The time is now to secure the border, stop the cartels, protect our communities, and uphold the values that make the United States a beacon of hope and opportunity.”
