Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation applauds the Texas State Board of Education for their final vote on their legislative priorities, officially dropping their opposition to parental empowerment and school choice.

“Parents deserve educational options for their children, and we applaud the State Board of Education for recognizing their need,” said Mandy Drogin, campaign director for TPPF’s Next Generation Texas campaign. “We are grateful to the members who voted to remove the opposition to parental empowerment.”

“With over 60,000 students on charter school waitlists and another 20,000 on the waitlist for Texas’ SSES program, policymakers should be focusing on expanding educational opportunities,” said Michael Barba, K-12 education policy director for TPPF’s Next Generation Texas campaign. “The SBOE today formally recognized the need to empower parents, and for that we applaud them.”
