Today, the Texas House passed House Bill 18, a proposal that would introduce the strongest protections in the nation for children online. The bill now heads to the Texas Senate for consideration. TPPF CEO Greg Sindelar released the following statement:

“For too long, children in Texas have experienced harms like anxiety, depression, self-harm, sex trafficking, and even suicide while using online services like social media that do little to protect kids. HB 18 addresses this problem by giving control and power to parents over their children’s online activity, equipping parents with new rights and tools to monitor their child’s activity and intervene if they so choose. This bill allows parents to parent they way they see fit online, while holding online services to a higher standard to ensure they do not harm the developmental, physical, or emotional well-being of a child.”
