Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation applauds the passage of Senate Bill 490, legislation that will provide Texans with greater transparency regarding their hospital bills. This legislation now heads to Governor Abbott.
“We applaud the passage of Senator Hughes’ hospital price transparency bill that gives patients the ability to view itemized statements and bills,” said David Balat, director of TPPF’s Right on Healthcare initiative. “According to industry experts, approximately 50% of medical bills may contain errors and the first step for patients to identify any problems is to see the itemized statement of what was provided with the corresponding price. Passage is an important next step in the push for price transparency that started last session.”
