Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation applauds the passage of border legislation that will begin the process of regaining control of the Texas-Mexico border. TPPF CEO Greg Sindelar released the following statement:

“We commend the Texas House of Representatives and Chairman Guillen for passing several bills, including HB 7 and HB 3782, that take strong first steps toward reining in the crisis at our southern border.

“HB 7 creates several programs that address instances of lawlessness at the border, such as illegal entry or damage to private property. It also creates the Border Protection Unit, which asserts Texas’ right to defend its border and its communities in the absence of the federal government fulfilling its constitutional duty to do so.

“HB 3782 will help improve efficiency and transparency for border security operations by creating a Border Security Advisory Council that will advise the governor and the Legislature on homeland security at the Texas-Mexico border. It will also create the Border Protection Task Force that will cooperate with all agencies involved in border security to conduct border protection operations.

“We applaud Texas’ leadership in looking for solutions to protect its citizens.”
