The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Local Governance Director James Quintero issued the following statement on Governor Abbott’s remarks on local control. Earlier today, Gov. Abbott reiterated concerns about the proliferation of local government rules and regulations, calling for a “broad-based ban on regulations at the local level unless and until certain standards are met.”

“Texans are being smothered under a patchwork quilt of local rules and regulations that threaten to turn the Texas Miracle into a California-style nightmare,” said Quintero. “And much of it is being done in the name of local control. It’s become clear that broad-based reforms are needed now more than ever to prevent the continued California-zationof Texas.”
