Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation applauded Governor Abbott for ensuring that virtual education options will continue through 2025. By directing the Texas Education Agency to create waivers that allow families to keep using the program until the Legislature can make them permanent, Texas will ensure that over 38,000 families retain a crucial education option.

“TPPF polling finds that Texans overwhelmingly agree that families should be able to choose a virtual education program—and that school districts should be able to choose to provide it,” said Emily Sass, distinguished senior fellow for TPPF’s Next Generation Texas initiative. “By extending the program through 2025, Governor Abbott has given the Legislature time to come up with a more permanent solution-without Texas families paying a price in the process.”
