AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation released a statement in advance of today’s Senate State Affairs Committee hearing to consider SB 7, legislation authored by Sen. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola), that would end the practice of the state collecting membership dues of public sector labor unions:
“This special session offers Texas a golden opportunity to pass comprehensive conservative reforms, and one of the most important is Sen. Bryan Hughes’ SB 7 legislation," said Dr. Kevin Roberts, executive vice president of Texas Public Policy Foundation. "Our state has no business collecting membership dues of a private, political organization. They should collect their own dues, as other membership organizations do. Labor unions mix policy advocacy and political advocacy and do so with little to no transparency in how these use the dollars that the state collects for them. Legislators in both the House and Senate should pass this legislation during this special session.”
Dr. Kevin Roberts is the executive vice president of Texas Public Policy Foundation.
