Texas and Mexico are bound by centuries of ties, sometimes as friends, sometimes as enemies, and always as neighbors. That relationship is now rapidly eroding thanks to a Mexican state that cannot exercise full sovereignty over its own territory, and too often actively cooperates with its own criminal cartels. Mexicans suffer the most for their government’s dysfunctions, but Texans suffer too?— and Texans increasingly realize that the time is past for Texas to act. This panel explores the Texas-Mexico relationship and its challenges and looks toward solutions on both sides of the border.
