The battle for civics education has entered a new stage: “Action Civics” has made its way to the home front of Texas. This new initiative, originating from Illinois, encourages students to “take action” through protesting and lobbying.

Without proper guardrails, Action Civics quickly deviates to using students as political pawns on the front lines of the culture war.  While Action Civics presents itself as the “cure” for our civic illiteracy, it is in fact far worse than the disease.

Now more than ever we must ensure that Texas passes strong civics legislation to ensure our Founding ideals are properly protected. As Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same…” Let this next generation not be the last to participate in the fight for freedom.
