It’s a good thing we live in the United States, where it is impossible for the president to fire a big-city mayor.
That is what has happened in Russia, where Russian President Dmitry Medvedev recently fired Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov. The reason he could do so is because Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, when he was president, changed the law to allow him and his successors to do so.
Freedom is something beyond measure, though we all too often forget that. Even so, there are few places better than the U.S.-and Texas-to experience the blessings of freedom.
