Are third-party audits of local government needed for spending accountability or are they a waste of taxpayer money?

Join us for a panel discussion to examine the upcoming Austin, Texas ballot initiative that seeks to conduct an independent audit of the City of Austin’s expenditures.

Critics say an outside audit is a waste of $4 million.

Proponents maintain that a third-party audit can look for program efficiencies and cost savings, review outsourcing opportunities, and recommend public assets that might be sold. The goal being to provide improved services for less money and potentially even reduce taxes.

Our expert panel will be moderated by Chuck DeVore, Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Vice President of National Initiatives, and our panelists will be:

  • Fred Lewis – Austin Attorney
  • Bobby Levinski – Austin Attorney
  • Art Martinez – Executive Director, Texas Local Government Center (invited)

Please RSVP to be added to our guest list and join in the conversation. And, feel free to invite your friends and colleagues to RSVP as well.
