Case Status: Pending
In 2023, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) approved the Labyrinth/Gemini Bridges Travel Management Plan (TMP) and closed over 300 miles of previously available routes frequently used by motorized recreational vehicles. The area encompassed by the plan includes over 300,000 acres of land near Moab, Utah, a location known for its breathtaking scenery and world-class off-road vehicle routes.
The BlueRibbon Coalition is an organization that works to secure, protect, and expand outdoor recreation on public lands. CAF filed suit on behalf of the BlueRibbon Coalition and its members to preserve their access to these public lands. The lawsuit challenges BLM’s power to prohibit motorized travel as a means to protect an adjacent wilderness area across the Green River. The lawsuit also challenges the power of a low-level BLM employee to enact sweeping access restrictions. The Constitution requires officers of the United States—not employees—to make important decisions like this one.
