Sam Johnson joined the Texas Public Policy Foundation in 2019 as a member of the inaugural class of Legislative Fellows.

Sam is a Native Texan and a fifth-generation Austinite. He played baseball at the University of Texas at San Antonio and later transferred to Texas State University and is a proud Bobcat.

Sam is a veteran of the Texas Legislature, beginning his career in 2013 as a House Messenger. He spent two sessions with the House Sergeant at Arms office and moved to the House Committee on Appropriations as the assistant clerk in the 85th Legislative Session. Sam’s passion for policy lead him down the campaign trail during the 2018 election cycle where he led a successful campaign for a rural area House member. In January 2019 he returned to the Texas Capitol for the 86th Legislative Session as a policy analyst for the House Republican Caucus.

Sam’s love for Texas doesn’t stop at state politics, he is also an avid fan of University of Texas athletics, Tex-Mex, and floating the San Marcos river.
