AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation issued this statement on today's passage of SB 7 by the 83rd Texas Legislature:

"The final passage of SB 7 is a welcome step forward in the ongoing effort to reform Texas' Medicaid program so that it is sustainable in the long term," said Arlene Wohlgemuth, Executive Director and Director of the Center for Health Care Policy, "We especially applaud the inclusion of the Leach amendment, which prohibits the ObamaCare Medicaid expansion in Texas and ensures that Medicaid resources go to those who truly need them – those currently enrolled, for whom the program was intended.

"SB 7 helps lay the foundation for future Medicaid reform in Texas and sends a strong message to Washington, D.C., that we will not cave in to pressure for ever-expanding government-run health care."

The Honorable Arlene Wohlgemuth is the executive director and director of the Center for Health Care Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. She served 10 years in the Texas House of Representatives, specializing in health care issues.
