AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Fueling Freedom Project Director Doug Domenech issued the following statement on Indiana Governor Mike Pence’s letter to President Obama stating that Indiana will not comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed Clean Power Plan (CPP) if the final rule is not “demonstrably and significantly improved.”

"Indiana joins Oklahoma in standing up against this federal overreach that attempts to take control over power generation in the states in a way that substantially increases costs for their citizens and businesses," said Domenech. "Texas Governor Greg Abbott has also stated his support for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's approach which is to ‘Just Say No’ to the CPP. The plan is all pain, and no gain. The cost of compliance is billions of dollars and higher electricity rates for all families in exchange for a tiny fraction of a degree in global temperature reduction."

Over 30 states have filed negative comments on the proposed rule and 13 of those states have already sued to stop the rule. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has indicated Texas is preparing a legal challenge in anticipation of the final rule expected later this summer.

A poll released earlier this week by TPPF indicated widespread concern about any federal effort, including the Clean Power Plan, that raises rates on consumers.
