AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation will host “Texas at a Turning Point: A Free Market Economics Conference and Luncheon,” on April 16, 2014, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Central Time at the Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capitol.

This conference will bring together Texas’ brightest and most eminent economists to discuss policy challenges facing the Lone Star State. After a morning of panel sessions, a keynote luncheon address will be given by Richard Fisher, President, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with the first panel, “Relieving Texas’ Tax Burdens,” convening at 8:45 a.m. This panel addresses the best way to pay for essential public services and infrastructure in Texas, and features Dr. Michael Stroup of Stephen F. Austin State University, Dr. Michael Giberson of Texas Tech University, and TPPF’s Dr. Vance Ginn.

The second panel, “Laying the Foundation for Texas’ Future,” begins at 10:15 a.m. and will discuss the rapidly growing Texas-population demand for schools, water, and public services. Panelists include Dr. Keith Phillips with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, San Antonio Branch; Mr. Richard Alm of the O’Neil Center for Global Markets and Freedom; and Dr. John Merrifield with the University of Texas-San Antonio.

Lunch begins at 11:45 a.m. with keynote remarks by Richard Fisher, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Immediately after the luncheon, Mr. Fisher will take brief questions from members of the media.
