As an advocate of free markets, I love the marketplace. But the Marketplace?

That’s a different issue.

I recently received an email touting the “‘Marketplace’ [as] a one-stop shop where you can learn about health insurance options and select the best plan for yourself or the person you are assisting.”

What a concept, I thought. Why didn’t I come up with that in the first place? If we only had a ‘Marketplace’ for health care, jobs, schools, and energy, everything would be fine and we could all go home and stop arguing about politics.

But then, I had an inking that this isn’t a new idea, that maybe someone had come up with this idea before.

Then it hit me. Our friends in the Soviet Union tried this a few years back, and, as the picture above shows, it didn’t turn out so well. I think I’ll stick with the marketplace.
