David Agren is the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Senior Fellow for Mexico Policy. In this capacity, David’s research and policy work particularly focuses on security and immigration-related matters. In 2020, David authored the Foundation’s seminal paper Perfect Storm: The Pull and Push Factors Driving the Central American Migration Crisis.
Since 2005 David has lived and worked in Mexico, covering Mexican and Latin American news for a myriad of publications, including The Washington Post, USA Today, The Guardian, The Globe and Mail, Catholic News Service and The Financial Times. His reporting has taken him to all of Mexico’s 32 states, in addition to 11 countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean. David’s wide-range of reporting over the years has included Mexican presidential elections, corruption, drug cartel violence, immigration stories from Central America and Mexico’s northern and southern borders and the Catholic Church.
A native of Calgary, Alberta David is a graduate of Mount Royal University and has studied abroad three times – twice in Mexico and once in Washington, D.C., as a part of the political journalism program at the Fund for American Studies.
