The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Tenth Amendment Action Director Chip Roy issued the following statement on Governor Greg Abbott’s comments on an Article V Convention of States in the State of the State address today.

“Governor Abbott’s efforts to lead Texas to call for a Convention of the States is as timely and important as ever,” said Roy. “Our founders purposefully gave us this tool to amend the Constitution to restrain the federal government and the Governor is wise to look beyond election cycles and take this opportunity to protect liberty for future generations.

“The Texas Public Policy Foundation is committed to the principle of limited constitutional government reflected in the Tenth Amendment. Article V is one tool we have to protect the right of Texans to live free from the long arm of the federal government.”

At the Texas Public Policy Foundation 14th Annual Policy Orientation, Texas Governor Greg Abbott called for an Article V Convention of States to amend the Constitution for the purpose of limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.
