AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) today released “Competitive Contracting: League City, Texas.” The new study examines the benefits of competitive contracting processes as applied to League City, Texas. The study suggests that League City’s core city services could be provided at significantly lower costs while maintaining or improving their quality by implementing competitive contracting practices.
“Competitive contracting is a powerful tool that is, right now, available to local governments, like League City, Texas,” said James Quintero, director of the Center for Local Governance at TPPF. “By opening up the bidding process to competition, it’s been proven that local governments can provide important public services at a lower cost and with higher quality.
“By adopting the competitive contracting model, League City could reduce city spending anywhere between $30 million to $56 million over a six-year period. That’s tens of millions of dollars that could go toward lowering property taxes, reducing unfunded pension liabilities, paying down debt, or investing in needed infrastructure.”
