AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation congratulates Barack Obama on his reelection as President of the United States.

“The American people have chosen our direction, and we congratulate Barack Obama on his reelection,” said Foundation Chairman Wendy Gramm, “Whatever our political persuasion, the fact of fifty-seven quadrennial national elections without interruption over two centuries is an extraordinary record, unmatched in history. Yesterday evening, we again justified our Founding Fathers’ faith in a Constitutional republic.”

“This election campaign was fought on many issues,” said Foundation President and CEO Brooke Rollins, “but at the forefront was always the question of jobs and the economy. We sincerely hope that as President Obama formulates his agenda for a second term, he will look to the only state that has genuinely flourished during his first: Texas. The Lone Star State’s model of low taxes, limited government, and fiscal restraint has produced an extraordinary record of prosperity that stands in stark contrast to the national record of the past four years. At the Texas Public Policy Foundation, we know how to enact these policies and reforms, and we stand ready to work with our President and his team in taking the lessons of Texas to the national stage.”

“In the coming year, our Foundation will work with allies and friends in some major policy endeavors right here in Texas,” said Foundation Executive Director Arlene Wohlgemuth, “among them a fiscally responsible state budget, reforms to save Medicaid, and real school choice for our parents, students, and taxpayers. With the experience of the past four years behind us, we know that Washington, D.C., can impact Texas for good or ill. Our sincere hope is that the coming second term of President Obama will see the former come to the fore.”
